“Do you know this man???”

No, I haven´t changed my profession and joined the profiling specialists of the FBI, I merely am practicing the art of drawing profiles now. 😉

As it happens it´s not as easy as I first thought. It´s just as equally important to get all the proportions right as with a full-front portrait, otherwise you can´t recognize the person being portrayed.

So, my question for you today – and I very much hope that you enjoy this kind of riddle 😉 – is:

Do you know from which famous painting/man I took the liberty to make a sketch from with the picture above?? (Here´s a clue: it´s italian and from the early Renaissance.)

Please feel free to suggest anything that comes to your mind! I´ll be looking very much forward to it 😀 The winner gets full boasting rights for at least a week 😉

 

As with the drawing below, it depicts one of my friends who graciously allowed me to use him as a model – luckily for him drawing profiles doesn´t take as long as a real portrait 😉

  1. All I can say is that I would know that man if I saw him again but I don’t remember from where. But I did know he was definitely Italian. Renaissance. As for the second man, modern, say, late 30’s, early 40’s? You are darn good!

      1. No problem. I’m the same way with my pc. As with my smart phone. Guess I should give up on technology. It has certainly given up on me.

    1. Hehe! 🙂 It is a very prominent nose, isn´t it? That´s why he´s quite easy to recognize, I guess 😉 Did you know that he was always depicted like that because he had a disfiguring scar on the other side of his face?

      2. Maybe they have been made earlier in his life. As far as I know he was also a warrior, or knight 😉 But I think it wouldn´t make a difference, his nose made him quite unique no matter from which side he was portrayed 😉

  7. Well the portrait was from Duke Federico da Montefeltro, Lord of Urbino!, but actually the painting was by Piero della Francesca 🙂

  13. Wow Sarah! Well done. Profiles are a good place to dabble in, and I love the simple, clean lines. The first sketch is soooo very familiar, but cannot place it in this moment!
