Seeing tiger lilies blossom in my near-by park, always makes me think of my childhood hero Peter Pan.

I love the story of this boy who refuses to grow up and has adventures instead.

I think I watched nearly every movie that has been made about him too, starting with the silent movie starring Betty Bronson as Peter (just brilliant), the Disney movie of course, “Hook” with the incomparable Robin Williams and “Finding Neverland” with Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp.

This story created by J.M. Barrie touched the hearts and souls of countless children (and grown-ups) and let them see the boundless marvels of fantasy, triggering their own imagination and inspiring them to live their dreams.

  2. Such a beautiful capture Sarah! I love these flowers:) For me it is always and will be Asterix & Obelix. Of course I love their adventures but also they take me back to a happy place, a calming portion of my childhood.

      When it comes to comics Asterix&Obelix are my absolute heroes as well!!! I think we already discovered our mutual fondness for these enchanting gallic characters 😉

  5. Oh Sarah! What a wonderful post. Keeping the childhood spirit alive is quite challenging at times, but I love to see that spark in someone’s eye (or words here!) that signal that the child in that soul is indeed alive and well. My childhood hero from a young age was Jane Goodall. She left her home country to live a life she loved with animals in Africa! What a brave soul she was.

    As far as books, there are books here in a series called “Little House on the Prairie.” It is the tale of a family that comes out to the Western Part of the US to homestead and live in a log cabin, have adventures in the woods, and basically make a handmade life for themselves. Laura is the main character, and I always wanted to be just like her.

    What a wonderful question to ask, and I am so happy to hear your stories of what inspires you.

      Jane Goodall is a wonderful and inspiring choice for a childhood hero – I admire her and her work so very much!

      I haven´t read the books “Little House on the Prairie” but I can at least say that I watched every single episode of the TV series when I was a child – and dearly loved it! But I´m sure the books are even better, and will make sure to read them soon. And I too wanted to be just like Laura – even insisted on wearing two pigtails 😉

  6. I wouldn’t call the characters in books I loved “heroes” so much as “people who lived lives I thought were awesome.” Like the girls in Judy Blume books who actually knew boys, or the people on great adventures in other books.

  7. Beautiful flower indeed. When we moved here, to my pleasant surprise; orange ones in the garden. Fortunately outside the part where the dog also walks around, since the flower is poison for them.
    The black panther in Jungle Book always intrigued me 🙂 And not a fantasy person, but Christmas time, almost every year I watch at least one part of Sissi.

    1. Thanks so much, Patty! 🙂 I didn´t know that the flowers were poisonous for dogs, that´s awful! Do they avoid going near them by themselves or do you have to take extra care?
      Aww, Baghira was my favorite too from the Jungle Book, and Balou of course 😉 I think I still got a CD around with all the music from the movie! 😀 Will listen to it today! 🙂

        No, they don’t know, so that’s why you will have to keep them separate 😉
        If you read it, shortly after I published it, then yes…you couldn’t respond, because I noticed it a few hours later and adjusted it. Now, it should work.
        But I noticed myself, that I can’t comment via the WP reader at some websites (made with WP.org) myself and you have to literally visit the blog/website to leave a comment.

  8. Beautiful photo, Sarah. I love lillies! Peter Pan is wonderful and a great inspiration into the realm of imagination. That one is hard to top, but my favorite as a child was the Wizard of Oz. I wanted to be Dorothy. I wanted those ruby slippers. I hope you have a wonderful and inspirational new week ahead!

    1. Thank you, Lana! 🙂 I love lilies too, the only trouble are the stains you get through their pollen! I´ve been crouching through this flower bed and afterwards my nice black jacket was not so nice anymore – haha! 😀
      The Wizard of Oz came relatively late into my life, but I love the story very much – and since then also have a soft spot for ruby colored slippers 😉

      1. I liked the first one of the Depp series but the second one was a little too “out there” for me 😉 I am so glad you liked them though as I had to defend that first movie to friends the other day as being a creative gem! HUGS

  14. Have you read Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson, Sarah? It’s a Peter Pan story told from Tiger Lily’s perspective. It’s good!!
    As for childhood heroes, mine were the astronauts…and still are. 😊

    1. Not yet, I´m afraid, but I´m going to! I came across it because I wanted a lovely quote for my post 😉 It sounds wonderful already and I can´t wait to read it, especially since you say it´s so good! And I´m awfully curious how the story unfolds from her point of view!
      Your childhood heroes are a perfect choice in my view… wanted to become an astronaut when I was a kid but had to realize I would never made it: I get dizzy when I merely turn around myself, never mind being catapulted into space and spin around the planet 😉
      Watched every Star Trek episode as compensation though 😉

      1. All that that goes into becoming an astronaut seemed like too much work for too long a time. You know how it is when you’re a kid–a year seems like 10. At times, I regret not pursuing that dream, but then I just write something. 😁
        I was a big Star Trek fan too, and actually liked Star Trek: The Next Generation more than the original.

        Oh, TNG was my favourite Star Trek series too!!! That and Voyager. Did you watch the latest films by J. J. Abrams? Although they’re quite different from the earlier series and films, I rather like them 😄

  17. How much time do you have? It won’t surprise you that child me, who is alive and well and living in my apparently nature body, is slave to far too many hero’s and heroines and I’m not sure there is an overriding favourite. But I suppose just by writing this I am owning to Peter Pan being a driving force in my life 😉 xxxxxxx

  20. Lovely image and quote 😃 I’m a bit short of literary heroes from my kidhood — except Jo from Little Women! But I was totally going to be like Emma Peel from The Avengers, and Lt Uhura from Star Trek when I grew up!!

      3. Indeed! 🙂 The first books I read was Five friends by End Blyton. I had all of them. Then Nancy Drew. I had all of them too. One day I got home to my girls room in Norway and the books were gone, donated to charity by my mum!! 😮🙃

My first book was by Enid Blyton as well: The Island of Adventure – after that I was hooked for good 😉 I read them all and still have them – so sorry that your mum donated yours to charity but at least you can be sure that whoever bought them in the end for their kids, those kids will love them just the same! 🙂

  23. I had too many heroes to list here, but…Fionn Mac Cumhaill and Cuchulainn, two heroes from Irish legend spring to mind, as well as Kay Harker, a character from the books “The Midnight Folk” and “The Box of Delights.” And there’s always Frodo Baggins, of course. 🙂

      The others you´ve mentioned I will have to look up though, I´m afraid, although I do think I´ve heard from Cuchulainn somewhere before, something about slaying a dog?? Well, will hop over to Wikipedia in an instant and then be much smarter 😉
