Two Blog Awards and a Duckling

I´m completely thrilled to have been nominated again for two wonderful Blog Awards!

The first one is The Blogger Recognition Award for which I have to thank Cathi from OVER THE HILL on the YELLOW BRICK ROAD! 🙂 Please check out her wonderful blog, and I promise you that you will fall in love with the marvelous stories she´s creating.

In order to earn this award I need to answer the following two questions:

  1. Write a brief story of how your blog started:

One night, it was Christmas Day 2014, I looked at my easel and some acrylic paint that had literally been purchased a decade ago and felt myself longing to give it a try and see what happens – the last time I painted was at school over 10 years ago, so you can imagine that I was somewhat hesitant to do this.

If you´re curious now what came out of it, you can have a look here.

I painted some more and then stumbled upon a book by Jojo Moyes (One Plus One) where one of the main characters created a personal blog to help him deal with the problems his family was going through.

I was instantly hooked by the idea, did some research – et voilà! – my blog Art Expedition was born!

  1. Give a piece of advice to new bloggers:

Write about something that truly interests and inspires you, the rest will follow automatically.

And now to the fifteen bloggers I´m nominating for The Blogger Recognition Award:

The second award I´ve been nominated for is The Growing Self Blogger Award.

This award has been created by Roda from over at Growing Self and you can read in her own words what it is about:

“The Growing Self Blogger Award has been created to acknowledge and celebrate amazing individuals, in the blogging community, who are persevering through life’s challenges not only to GROW as individuals, but to reach out and help others GROW as well.”

Thank you so much for nominating me, Dominique from over at 3CStyle and Darren from over at The Arty Plantsman!

Dominique is one of those bloggers I can literally never get enough of! Apart from blogging about the glamorous world of fashion, she’s a scientific journalist and author who always manages to combine all her wonderful talents into the kind of posts that are at once funny, highly informative and also alluring at times. 😉

Darren is another one of these bloggers who never fails to amaze me with his artwork (he paints the most beautiful flowers you can imagine), his humor and also his straightforward approach to the things that happen in his life and his courage to share it with his fellow bloggers and friends.

And here are the rules to this award:

  • Put the award logo/image on your blog;

  • List the rules;

  • Thank the individual that nominated you and provide a link to their blog;

  • Describe the award and mention the creator: Roda  – Growingself.blog;

  • Nominate up to 5 blogs.  Remember, the purpose of this award is to specifically celebrate those individuals that have made a difference in your life or the lives of others;

  • Give at least 1 reason why you nominated each individual.

  • Notify your nominees of the award

My Nominees:

  • Divya from Travel Food Art lets her followers take part in the beautiful journey that is her life and fills me always with awe, joy and inspiration when I read her marvelous posts. Her talents seem to know no end – she´s a divinely gifted pastry cook and baker and also knows how to work magic with words.
  • Lauren from Baydreamer writes the most delightful and magnificent poetry and always manages to make me think and be more appreciative about the wonders of life, or simply just makes me smile which is always one of the best gifts there are in this world.
  • Ju-Lyn from Sunrise, Sunset – Matters of Perspective shares her wonderful view of the world and her life in her touching posts and also shows us the beauty that surrounds her and her family daily in beautiful Singapur. Her words always inspire me to take nothing for granted and to make me notice the delicate and endless wonders of life.
  • Kerry from Postcards from Kerry is an incredibly charming, witty and funny lady who has the biggest heart I know in our WordPress family and probably also beyond it. She shares with us her travels through the world and up and down her family tree as well, uncovering lovely hidden places and insights. Her pictures and stories about her two lovely cats always make me smile and her love for all the critters that inhabit our world is only equaled by mine.
  • Lana from L.T. Garvin is one the best writers I have come across here on WordPress and I always look forward to new short fictions, excepts from her novel (which is out now!!) or poems that simply take my breath away. After a short blogging pause she´s back again which I couldn’t be more happy about!

Please note, that you are under no obligation to either accept or take part in these awards!

Meet Franklin!

And because I always include something I´ve created in my posts, I´m sharing with you here a little water color of the cutest duckling I´ve ever seen: Franklin!

Thank you Roda for allowing me to make this painting inspired by your lovely photo! 🙂

  1. Many thanks Sarah for your lovely and kind words and thank you for nominating me. You already know how much I find you inspiring and that I appreciate your friendship and your artwork immensely. But let me say it again with 3 little words (because it is after all a magic number, haha…): You are AWESOME!
    And your painting of Franklin is adorable by the way. 😊

  2. Congratulations my friend. These awards are very well deserved. And thank you for writing such informative nominations; it’s always great to find new blogs via recommendation.
    And Franklin is very cute by the way — I love the name 🙂 xxxx

    1. Thank you very much, Su! I’m kind of glad these nominations don’t come as often anymore than they used to because they really take a lot of time. Would have loved to nominate you too but know that your blog is award free.
      Wish I could claim the honour to have given this duckling its name but it belongs to Roda from whose picture I did the painting. I also think it’s an adorable choice. ☺ xxxxx

      1. I know what you mean. I rather selfishly enjoy when my friends accept them though because I learn new things and am introduced to new blogs. 🙂

  3. Hi Sarah, I wanted to let you know that I’m compiling a post of accepting your awards and doing Annika’s quote challenge all in one. In doing so, I’m copying your painting of Franklin and I hope that’s alright. It’s prefaced with the introduction of you and what an amazing artist you are…anyway, I felt like doing this, although I don’t have time to nominate others, so I’m leaving it open to anyone who would like to carry through…hopefully, it’ll be up today or tomorrow, but I mainly wanted you to know about Franklin. If you’d rather me not, then just let me know…have a great day! Love and hugs! ❤🦆

    1. Oh, Lauren! That’s sooo sweet and wonderful of you!!! Of course you can use my painting of Franklin – I would be honoured! I’m so glad you’ve decided to join in this award and the lovely quote challenge too and personally think letting it open to anyone who wants to join in is much better than nominating just a few.
      Thank you so much for doing this and for thinking of me – I’m completely thrilled and literary glowing with joy!! Have an awesome and wonderful day, dear friend! Hugs&Love!!!! 😄💕

    1. Thank you so much , Lana! 😄
      And you’re very welcome! Hope you’ll find some time to join in this award.
      Spring started really early this year, with lots of sunshine and unusually high temperatures. But now there are some storms coming out way and I had to take some delicate plants inside again just in case.
      Have a Happy Spring too! Xoxo

      1. I am quite renewed for spring, Sarah. I am happy to report that I have finished all my CEU clock hours needed for my ongoing teaching credits that I have to do for my license. This so helps in getting back some of my blogging and writing time! Spring is glorious 😀 xoxo

    1. Thank you very much, Patty! Just wish I could have painted the duck from a life model than merely from a picture! But then it wouldn’t have hold so still! 😂
      Have a lovely evening! xxx

  6. Congrats on the awards, Sarah. I hadn’t heard of these before and love the impetus behind them. I’m so glad you started a blog to share your amazing artwork. 🙂 And thanks for the painting of Franklin. He’s so adorable, I couldn’t help smiling.

    1. Thank you, Diana! If you are into blog awards please consider yourself nominated too for both of them!! I actually can’t stand it that one has to limit oneself to name but a few blogs and always feel bad not to nominate ALL my blogging friends…
      And I´m so glad little Franklin made you smile – this made my day!! 🙂 ❤

  7. Hi Sarah,

    Congrats on the awards! You are more than deserving! Obviously, your talent shines through in each post, but your amazing, kind, and fun personality is magnetic to those who follow you. And thank you so much for both awards, for not only thinking of me, but for the wonderful things you said, too. I’m truly appreciative, but as I mentioned, I stopped doing awards several years ago because of the time involved. I hope you understand…
    I also enjoyed reading how your blog began and about the other blogs you nominated. I’ll definitely visit them! And Franklin…oh my gosh, he is just adorable! I’m sincere in repeating myself that your talent continues to be awe-inspiring.
    Thanks again, my friend, and have an awesome Friday! TGIF! (I’m so ready for it!) 🙂 Sending much love and many hugs your way! ❤😊🌻🦆🎉

    1. Hi Lauren and thank you so much for your beautiful words! They make me feel warm and happy like I’m basking in the mild spring sun. 😊
      And don’t worry about not taking part in these awards, I totally get that! This is more or less a nice way to point out your lovely blog to folks that might not know it yet and I hope they will feel as inspired and energized as I do every time I come and visit it.
      Have an amazing Friday! (Mine is almost over and I spent the afternoon with some nice shopping for the coming season. 😉)
      Much, much love to you too! 😊💞🐥🌷

  8. Congratulations on the two awards – both highly deserved! 😀 I enjoyed reading your introduction to the five nominated blogs, a lovely personable angle to them all. Franklin is very cute although he looks a bit lost!

  9. Congratulations, Sarah. Awards are lovely but I stopped accepting them as Jill has because they take a great deal of work. I’m always happy to see others get them though. I guess it’s a good way to introduce your followers to new blogs. As a retired person of considerable age, I should have lots of free time but somehow it’s alluded me. I’m as busy with so many projects now as I was when I was working. Your duck, Franklin is cute enough to want to take home and squeeze. Art brings into ourselves like nothing else we do. Glad you decided to do it again. Keep up the creativity. It feeds the soul.

    1. Thank you, Marlene! I completely understand when people decide to not participate in the blog awards, it does take a huge amount of time with adding all the links to other blogs etc. I only do them once in a while.
      My mum’s also retired but you wouldn’t know f
      it from looking at her schedule! 😂
      And I couldn’t agree more about creativity feeding our souls!!

      Have a lovely day!

    1. Thank you so much, Ann! I have to admit that I’m a little bit in love with Franklin too. 😉 I’m currently thinking about making prints of my paintings for postcards – if it works I could send you one!!
      Have fun checking out the other blogs!

    1. Thank you, Shari!
      Telling you more about the people I nominated is the main part of this lovely award, to let them and you know what it is that I appreciate about them. 🙂 I think all awards should be more like this!
      Hehe! I think you might be right about Franklin all grown up by now – they grow so fast!!
