My Instagram account! 

 

Last Friday I started my very own Instagram account – I know, I know: I’m kind of late in the game, but better late than never, right? 😉

In case you wonder, why I haven’t done this before – I just didn’t know if I could handle more than one social media network at the same time.

So I concentrated on my blog which has given me so much joy in the past 3 years, much more than I ever expected it to.

But now that I finally feel “at home” in the blogosphere, I’m ready to venture out there and try out new stuff!

As was to be expected, the name I was hoping for – “Art Expedition” –  was already taken, so instead I opted for another one: @art_photography_and_ceramics

This rounds up nicely where my interests lie, don’t you think?

In order to keep things interesting, I’m not going to solely post pics that are also going to land on the blog, but will share works in progress as well.

If you’re on Instagram too, it would be really awesome if we would connect there as well as here!

So either just click on one of my Instagram pics on the sidebar on the right and visit me there, or share a link to your Instagram account in the comments and I will follow it up.

      1. I understand. Honestly, I don’t really like IG. The follow-Unfollow bugs me a lot. If you are not familiar with this Sarah it can get to your mood. That’s why I have purchased an App that tells me if someone unfollow me. I can decide if I want to keep following them even if they are not. At least, I know now where I stand in their heart and interest. Just thought you should know. xoxo

      5. Thank you for letting me know about that follow-unfollow thing, Dominique! I thought I was imagining it when I saw that my “followers” were getting fewer rather than more over the weekend! LOL! 😀 What an impolite thing to do, really. I can totally get that it gets to your mood. That app sounds great, will get one like it too I think. 🙂
        If I had to choose between blogging or Instagram I would definitely choose the blog!! xoxo

      6. I much prefer WordPress too! About the followers on IG – I have a rule: I don’t follow if 1. they don’t put at least one like on a post. 2. I usually don’t follow those with + 10 K followers and 3. Most of the people that I follow bring something that truly interest me. What really bugs me is that some people follow you and as soon as you follow them back they hit the unfollow button. It is often done by computer-company that manage their account. Now here’s something you might want to try: Unfollow a person that just unfollowed you. You will notice that this persone-computer will visit you in the next few days and Follow you again. If it is a computer that manage their account it won’t unfollow you until you Follow them. So just don’t follow them back. Now, these people will almost never comment on your posts but be careful some comment or put likes but they take their likes away right before unfollowing you (the app will tell you who took their likes away). Fun, isn’t itI? No wonder why I stopped beeing on IG for a full year. I just decided to give it another try three months ago for business purposes. But I got an app now…. Hehe 🙂 (sorry for my way too long reply)

      7. Thank you so much for sharing your insights on IG with me, Dominique! I truly appreciate it! All your rules make perfect sense to me, and I’m going to do just the same from now on. I know that with blogging there are also lots of ghost followers etc. but it seems more likely to get to know a couple of people like on IG. I compare these two social media platforms with small talk – IG – and real conversations – WP.
        I think I would get depressed by people’s behaviors on IG if it were my only social media outlet!

      8. Agree with you Sarah. There are a few aspects of IG that I do like may I add. For example, the creative writing that ones need to get the attention with only a few words. That’s a challenge I enjoy. What bothers me is the competition among many, which leads to strange behaviors. I much prefer when women empower each others. Almost the weekend. Yay!

  5. Hey, I am not on Instagram for the same reason you were hesitating about it – how can I manage another social media account? It’s so time consuming keeping up with everything, but I am thinking of doing the same, so see you on there soon!!!!! Have a fabulous weekend Sarah xxx

  13. Good luck with your new venture, Sarah. That’s very pioneering of you, even if you are coming to it late. 🙂 I’m not on Instagram. I really don’t know much about it at all, and well, you know me …. I like to have a chat. My blog is good for that.

    1. Thank you, Tracy!! 🙂 It does feel a bit like pioneering to me. 😉 Will see how it works out with Instagram. I’m so in love with blogging that I will probably end up frustrated by it because it doesn’t seem to be about connecting and sharing but more on who gets the most likes.

  15. I think you’ll do well with Instagram as you post lots of visual treats. I don’t have an Instagram account and want to focus on my writing – so we won’t likely connect there but I may follow you there anyway. Best wishes on your new endeavor, Sarah.

      I’ve heard that Twitter is more of a thing for writers than instagram, so maybe that would be something to look into when you have the time.

      1. There is an active writing community on Twitter for writers to connect with one another and promote their work. The hashtags #amwriting, #amreading, and #writingcommunity are the ones used most frequently.

  16. I have an Instagram account, but I haven’t done anything with it yet. I’m thinking of creating videos to showcase my writing. (I’ve already done one, but, boy, did it take a lot of time!) I think you’ll be a natural for Instagram because you’re a prolific visual artist in a wide range of media.

    1. Thanks, Liz! 😄 I really like the idea of videos to showcase your writing as I’m a huge fan of watching videos on YouTube to learn new things (like crocheting amigurumi for instance). It does take a lot of time though (and lots of editing to!), and then there’s the thing of getting used to seeing and hearing oneself speak! I really struggle with that! 😂

      1. Thanks, Sarah! When I speak on video as myself, I have trouble getting used to my voice as well. Reading fiction and poetry is much easier because I become the poem’s persona or the story’s narrator–somebody else, in other words!

      4. That sounds sensible to get a few done before you start sharing. Are you planning to share some pictures as well? The most important thing seems to be to post on a regular basis, if it’s every day, once a week or a month isn’t important as long as your followers know what and when to expect your next post. 🙂
        I’ll try to do this 3 times a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – at least for the beginning. After that it might come down to once a week like with my blog. 🙂

      6. Maybe have a look at what other writers do. I can imagine lots of things! And yes, posting stuff just for the sake of posting stuff often backfires. Content is important. 😊

    1. I do get the feeling of vulnerability, Marlene. It took me quite some time to even post my photo instead of an avatar. We’ll see how it goes with instagram, but I know already that blogging is where I feel the most comfortable with. The friendships that I’ve built here are so wonderful and I don’t think this can be replicated in other social media platforms.
