Virtual Tea Party – Cinnamon Edition

I’m not going to whine about how fast time has gone again, and that I haven’t properly prepared for today’s virtual tea party – because in the end I managed to bake a tray of these delicious cinnamon buns this morning and they have made me completely happy because, well, you know, CINNAMON!!!

(By now you’ve probably realized that I love the stuff. 😉 )

In case you detest cinnamon (I can’t even imagine how that’s possible but I’m willing to accept that you’re maybe one of the few), please feel free to skip this post and hop right over to Su’s where you’ll be perfectly served with little mini pancakes with a mix of toppings, lemon shortbread with mascarpone and strawberries or a fruit cake!

Cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven and a mug of green tea (November 2020)

Also I found the perfect quotes to go along with my post, so even more happiness!!!

Did you know that cinnamon was so highly prized among ancient civilizations that it was regarded as a gift fit for monarchs and even for a deity?

In Ancient Egypt, cinnamon was even used to embalm mummies(!).

To give you an idea about its worth in antiquity: cinnamon was too expensive to be commonly used on funeral pyres in Rome, but the Emperor Nero is said to have burned a year’s worth of the city’s supply at the funeral for his wife Poppaea Sabina in AD 65.

Personally I much prefer ingesting cinnamon while still alive. 😉 Preferably in forms of rolls but I don’t mind putting a bit of cinnamon in my coffee as well from time to time, and especially around Christmas.

Cinnamon is also supposed to have several health benefits (like for blood sugar management in those with diabetes, reduce blood pressure and ease digestive discomfort).

Hope you enjoyed this post and look forward to look what you’re bringing to the party! 😀

P.S. Noticed the deliberate absence of the C-word? Awesome, right? 😉

  1. Ha! Seriously. I’m coming over to watch you bake and eat all your treats. 😀

We have cinnamon on our morning oats every day! I also use it as an ant deterrent for my indoor plants. I know, I’m so mean.

    1. Okay!! 😀

I really need to try adding cinnamon to my morning oats too then, you’re not the only one saying it’s awesome!
Oh wow! Cinnamon works as an ant deterrent? Must try this next time the little bastards try invading my balcony! 😉

  2. Cinnamon is a staple in this house. I put it in anything possible. Including my coffee grounds while I’m making it. I love cinnamon rolls and yours look wonderful. I’d come to your tea party anytime. I have my recipe out but haven’t had time to make them yet. Sigh. So much to do with the holidays coming. I’m up very late tonight to get things done. You know what I mean. Thanks for the tea and cinnamon.

      1. I sent it this morning from my hotmail address. I didn’t get much choice in which address it would come from. Just a heads up. Made pumpkin bread yesterday and some almond poppy seed muffins. Today, It’s just 2 more reindeer then 2 more the next day and I’ll be ready to start making them a quilt. Lots of computer work too. Thank goodness it’s raining so I can stay in and work.

      2. You are so industrious, Marlene. I spent most of the day at my desk yesterday although I did do some cooking and walking. My daughter has an iron deficiency so I have been researching how to increase her iron intake. She is a bit of a fussy eater. Pumpkin bread might be something I could try with her as I read pumpkin seeds are a good source of iron. N.B. We are not vegetarian, even though I have been in the long distant past.

      3. My daughter had iron problems for a long while and she took a supplement which helped. She eats very little red meat so that’s part of the problem. She seems to have finally recovered from it. Good luck with finding the trick to it.

      4. Thanks Marlene, great to hear your daughter has managed the condition well. She has it is hard when you are fighting female biology evety month. She has taken a supplement which dis help nut she lost interest with taking. Now the consequence is extreme fatigue and feeling down. Her diet needs little tweaking but the fatigue in the late afternoon makes it hard for her to be enthusiastic about a large meal.

      5. It is tough when you need to eat but can’t summon the energy. No doubt you would have empathy as anyone with lung conditions would. I wish we could have a main meal earlier in the day more often, and on those days we aim to go out to lunch so she eats well then.

    1. Thank you, Marlene! So happy to hear you’re also a fan of cinnamon! Putting it in the coffee grounds is the best way to add it to coffee I find, unless you like to use sugar than you can simply add cinnamon sugar. But I’ve given up on sugar (at least in my coffee) so I pop it into the coffee filter. 😀 You can do the same with green cardamom seeds if you like them. 🙂
Tell me about the holiday season! I’m so behind schedule! LOL!

      1. I’ve been behind every year in the getting ready for the holidays so get used to it. I’m always so far behind, I can see my own backside. 😉 I don’t use sugar in my coffee either nor cream. I drink hazelnut flavored coffee and add my own cinnamon. Hope to bake tomorrow, between sewing sessions. Deep breath here.

  3. I love cinnamon. I put it on my oatmeal in the morning. I love it with apples in pie or applesauce or apple crisp. In the Caribbean, they routinely serve their coffee with cinnamon already in it. I don’t know how they do it. If you just shake cinnamon in your coffee, it doesn’t taste as good.

    1. Mmmmm! Cinnamon and apples is sooo good! Need to try it in my oatmeal!
I think they add the cinnamon while brewing the coffee, that’s how I do it at least: coffee and cinnamon put together in the filter, water – et voilà: perfect cinnamon coffee. Or, if you take sugar you could just use cinnamon sugar instead. 😀

  4. First of all, yes, definitely awesome absence of the C-word! Also, you had me at cinnamon. Next time, can I come to your house? Those look so good. I also like the cute bird mug. Thanks for the ray of sunshine this morning. 🙂

  5. I learned recently that cinnamon has healing properties – like it can help if someone ate too much sugar (my good friend Dr Martelli tells people to consume some for balance) and I think you know it can be an air purifier – cleans spores and can be big deterrent

Anyhow – your fun quotes and artsy mug went with your cinnamon treats

My mother in law has a five minute cinnamon twist she used to make in the 90s and it made her house smell amazing

    1. You’re so right about the health benefits of cinnamon, Yvette! I love it when something not only tastes good but actually is good for you too. 😀
Cinnamon twist sounds wonderful, especially when it made the house smell of cinnamon!

    1. Apple and cinnamon are a perfect marriage in my mind! They compliment each other perfectly. 😀 Need to try out the cinnamon sugar on toast!! I only ever used that with rice pudding – also yummy! Happy weekend, Bette! ❤

  6. We are daily cinnamon users, Sarah. In coffee, in pops, in rolls and bread, with fruit… as decorations! I love your tidbits on the history of this spice, and I’m not surprised that it was so expensive and popular. Your cinnamon rolls look a lot better than mine, Lol, but they are inspiring! Have a wonderful evening, my friend. ❤

    1. Thank you, Diana! After I made the photo I realized that I forgot to add the icing to my cinnamon rolls! LOL! But they taste just as good without. 😉 Glad to know another cinnamon addict. 😉 Happy weekend, dear friend! ❤
