Unfinished Paintings – The Three Alpacas

As promised here comes another one of my unfinished paintings!   This time I was inspired by a photo of three alpacas taken by my dear friend Su from over at Zimmerbitch. The photo in question was made a couple of years ago and she also edited it with Snapseed and Photolab apps toContinue reading “Unfinished Paintings – The Three Alpacas”

The Changing Seasons – April 2019

It´s time again for the wonderful challenge The Changing Seasons hosted by my dear friend Su from Zimmerbitch!   This month is clearly dominated by one theme – flowers! April started with my beloved cactus showering me with its beautiful flowers! This cactus is a descendent from a plant that belonged to my great-grandmother, and is wellContinue reading “The Changing Seasons – April 2019”

The Changing Seasons – June 2018

It´s time again for the wonderful challenge The Changing Seasons, invented by Max from Cardinal Guzman and now hosted by my dear friend Su from Zimmerbitch.   The month of June started with admiring beautiful Irises in a little park nearby. Unfortunately I forgot to reload the battery of my camera and after only one single shot it gaveContinue reading “The Changing Seasons – June 2018”

Isidor´s Eagle

Having lately noticed that eagles are the national birds of many countries (including my own with its Golden Eagle), I thought it was time to give it a try and paint one. In this post however, I want to draw attention to a maybe less known species of eagles, the Isidor´s Eagle, alsoContinue reading “Isidor´s Eagle”

A Tui From New Zealand

In one of my latest post  (Golden Flicker), my dear friend Su from over at Zimmerbitch and I had a little chat about New Zealand´s national bird – the kiwi – and how she would prefer another one as such, since the kiwi is not only nocturnal but also flightless which contributes to itContinue reading “A Tui From New Zealand”

A Surprising Encounter

Over 3.5 million people and a few thousand foxes live in Berlin, and supposedly the latter can be seen just about everywhere but so far I only ever saw one single fox. It was a couple of years back when I was on my way back home after a late course at uni.Continue reading “A Surprising Encounter”

Red-tailed Comet

The Red-tailed Comet (Sappho sparganurus) is a medium-sized hummingbird. This species of hummingbird can be found in the Central Andes of Bolivia and Argentina, in Chile and in Peru. The genus name refers to Sappho, an ancient Greek poet of Lesbos. The species name sparganus derives from the Greek words σπαργανόω and ουρά, meaning “decorated tail”. In at least part ofContinue reading “Red-tailed Comet”

It´s cold, it´s wet – it´s Easter!

Wish you all a beautiful and Happy Easter! 🐰🐤🐔🌷   P.S. It´s quite cold and rainy around here, so I painted this snowshoehare still clad in his winter coat as an Easter bunny for you 😉

Hyacinth Macaw

Don´t ask me why, but I´m totally into painting birds these days, so expect to have some feathered friends flying your way in the coming weeks. 😉 This is a water color painting of a Hyacinth Macaw, a parrot that is native to central and eastern South America. With a length of about 100Continue reading “Hyacinth Macaw”

Pulled From the Archives: In the Mood for… Vermeer – Girl with a Pearl Earring

There are many painters I admire, but only a few that speak right to my heart. One of them is Johannes Vermeer(1632-1675). A couple of his paintings can be seen in the Gemäldegalerie (Picture Gallery) in Berlin, and I can not count the times I stood in front of them, completely mesmerized. In comparisonContinue reading “Pulled From the Archives: In the Mood for… Vermeer – Girl with a Pearl Earring”
