Day 7 of my new blog challenge –
Share Your Music! 30 Days 30 Songs!
Please feel free to join me anytime you want! And if you do, it would be lovely if you would pingback to my post so that I can keep track of your favorite songs as well.
Today I’m going to ask you to dance with me! And when I think of dancing, I think of John Travolta!
And when I think of John Travolta almost a million dance scenes pop into my head!
So it’s only fair to share at least two with you here today!
The first one also happens to be from one of my favourite Tarantino movies “Pulp Fiction”. John Travolta and Uma Thurman are dancing to Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell”:
The second dance scene comes from an equally awesome movie (Saturday Night Fever) with even more awesome music by the Bee Gees – “Stayin’ Alive”!
If you didn’t jump up from your seat to join John Travolta yet, I promise, you will now!!
The man can dance. Oh, how he can dance! Such great selections.

Indeed he can! 😀 Wouldn’t say no if he asked me for a dance. 😉

Aren’t they just? 😄 I think a rewatch is called for. 😉

I have a love-hate relationship with Pulp Fiction (like so many Tarantino movies). I abhor the violence, but love the film-making genius. This scene is an absolute favourite!!
Saturday Night Fever was such a huge hit when it came out in NZ, and people were obsessing about it so much, I just never went to see it and it became part of my thing to be anti-disco. I’ve relented on disco — though my tastes are more Donna Summer than the Bee Gees — but I’ve still never managed to watch SNF all the way through. 😀

It’s the same for me with Tarantino, Su, he’s a film-making genius no doubt, but the violence can be a bit overwhelming after say, a gallon of spilled blood. 😉
Maybe we could add watching SNF to that list for my visit? 😉 Or Strictly Ballroom – one of my all-time favorite dance films!! 😀

Strictly Ballroom I could watch again and again forever. I’ll start stockpiling popcorn 😀

Great dance scenes. I liked both movies too, especially Pulp Fiction. 🙂

Yay! These scenes really rock, don’t they? Wish I could dance like John Travolta! LOL! 😀

Haha… I would love to see you dance, either on the music ‘You never can tell” or “Stayin’ Alive”. Next challenge maybe? 😀

What a hero! Two of the greatest dance scenes. And Uma Thurman with her Chanel Rouge Noir nail polish;-)

I know, right?! 😀 Brilliant actors all around – and that nail polish does rock. 😉

I never cared for “Pulp Fiction” (so much gratuitous violence) but “Saturday Night Fever” was amazing. I felt the ache, confusion, and longing of the characters. Have you ever seen Sidney Pollack’s “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” It’s about a dance contest during the Depression, and the hopelessness of the dancers pours from the film. Must admit, I can’t remember any of the music but the story was compelling. The ultimate dance film for me is “Dirty Dancing.” “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” still makes me twirl around the floor. My family used to vacation in the Borscht Belt resorts when I was a kid. The evening entertainment was the highlight of every day.

I remember seeing “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” The desperation of those poor people trying to earn some money just to get by was painful to watch.

Ooh! I loooove Dirty Dancing – and very likely will put it in the challenge too;) ! That must have been a wonderful time when you and your family went to the Resort.
I haven’t watched the Sidney Pollack movie thought yet, but put it on the ever growing list of movies to watch. There’s another wonderful movie that I love – Strictly Ballroom. Have you heard of that perhaps? It’s a truly lovely movie. 🙂

Baz Lurhmann – how could I forget the master of dance and romance? Strictly Ballroom was a huge hit here as well as Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet, even if a bit exaggerated. But then, if we want ordinary, we can sit in our living rooms. I taught art to my first high school classes just after the movie Titanic was released, and every girl in the school was in love with Leonardo DiCaprio. So much silly fun to see so many starry-eyed girls.

Hehe! It’s been the same here – all the girls were in love with Leo and I was no exception! 😀 We even got to see Romeo and Juliet in the cinema with our German teacher because we were reading the drama at the time – I bet he regretted it! 😉
And I adore Moulin Rouge – you’re so right: if we want ordinary we can sit in our living rooms. 😉

Yes, to “You Never Can Tell,” not-so-much to “Stayin’ Alive.” Saturday Night Fever was so ubiquitous my freshman year of college, it was even formed the basis of a freshman composition writing assignment.

I used to mimic some of John Travolta’s dance moves from Pulp Fiction from the girls in El Salvador. They would be howling with laughter.

I’ve never seen Pulp Fiction so that was a new one on me. I haven’t seen Saturday Night Fever either but everyone knows that scene.

You should give those movies a try when you have the time, they’re really great! 😄

I read the synopsis of Pulp Fiction last night to see if I might want to watch it. My initial thought when it came out that it was too violent and having read the story I still think I wouldn’t like it. I don’t like gore. Saturday Night Fever I avoided because I don’t like the Bee Gees that much but I might be ready to watch it now.

I understand about Pulp Fiction. It was a thing when I was young and I mostly remember the awesome soundtrack of that movie to be honest. 😉 If you don’t like Quentin Tarantino in general, than you really don’t need to give it a try. 😉
Saturday Night Fever though – well, that’s a classic. 😉

I remember picking my 7 year old son up from a school disco and hearing from another parent about how my child had been doing the Stayin’ Alive dance moves. Oh dear, I wonder where he got that from. 🙂
