Unfinished Paintings – The Three Alpacas

As promised here comes another one of my unfinished paintings!   This time I was inspired by a photo of three alpacas taken by my dear friend Su from over at Zimmerbitch. The photo in question was made a couple of years ago and she also edited it with Snapseed and Photolab apps toContinue reading “Unfinished Paintings – The Three Alpacas”

A Prickly Handful

After having painted the pineapple that is more than a bit prickly to me 😉 , my thoughts went to one of the cutest animals, that also happens to be a bit prickly: the long-eared hedgehog. I´ve never had the opportunity to meet one as they are native to Central Asian countries asContinue reading “A Prickly Handful”

A Surprising Encounter

Over 3.5 million people and a few thousand foxes live in Berlin, and supposedly the latter can be seen just about everywhere but so far I only ever saw one single fox. It was a couple of years back when I was on my way back home after a late course at uni.Continue reading “A Surprising Encounter”

Red-tailed Comet

The Red-tailed Comet (Sappho sparganurus) is a medium-sized hummingbird. This species of hummingbird can be found in the Central Andes of Bolivia and Argentina, in Chile and in Peru. The genus name refers to Sappho, an ancient Greek poet of Lesbos. The species name sparganus derives from the Greek words σπαργανόω and ουρά, meaning “decorated tail”. In at least part ofContinue reading “Red-tailed Comet”

True Grit

True Grit (acrylic on canvas)   There´s a huge vine climbing beside my kitchen window where the bluebirds build their nests every spring. Unfortunately we´ve got a nasty little gang of young magpies as well here (don´t get me wrong, they are beautiful but you´ll soon see why I don´t like this particular group).Continue reading “True Grit”

In Gratitude

At the beginning of this week my dear friend Syeda published an article about our friendship and art collaboration. Stunned and overwhelmed I furiously began thinking about how I could express my gratitude to her. The solution was obvious: I had to paint something especially for her! But what, I wondered.   I searched myContinue reading “In Gratitude”

In the Mood for… Rousseau – The Dream

In the Mood for… Rousseau – The Dream (acrylic on canvas) This weekend I finished my latest painting! It´s inspired by the painting “The Dream” by the french painter Henri Rousseau (1844-1910), a post-impressionist who taught himself to paint and was tragically ridiculed by critics for his naïve manner during his lifetime. “The Dream” (1910)Continue reading “In the Mood for… Rousseau – The Dream”
