Day 10 of my new blog challenge –

Share Your Music! 30 Days 30 Songs!

 

I think I can slowly detect a certain pattern for choosing my favourite songs for this challenge – most of them seem to be connected to a movie I love!

The song for today is no exception – in fact, it’s one of those songs that actually made the movie the hit it was and still is:

 

 

I watched The Jungle Book with my mum in the cinema and was instantly hooked – the music was just perfect, as were the character, the tale, the drawings…

I’ve even read The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling before I’ve watched the movie, and for once in my life wasn’t disappointed by the adaptation which can be so easily the case when a beloved book is made into a movie.

The Jungle Book actually still is the most successful Disney-movie ever to be played in German cinemas, actually it is the most successful movie!

It’s huge success is based on the excellent synchronization by Heinrich Riethmüller, and to be honest, when I sing the songs of The Jungle Book – which happens occasionally 😉 – I sing them in their German version.

From all those wonderful Walt Disney movies that I’ve watched since, this will always be my very favourite.

  12. This is a revealing story, Sarah, about you and the German film audience. I never thought about this, though I’ve read articles about how literature fares in other countries in comparison to American readers. So interesting that national tastes are different, dependent on, I suspect, history and cultural impact.

    I did notice that you like musical selections from movies. I looked over my own music favorites list and realized almost none are from movies. Or at least were not chosen for their film connection. I tend to love music that reminds me of specific moments or people in my life, although I had about 120 choices for my favorite 30.

    Of course, I’ll be singing this song all day – thanks, Sarah. LOL

      1. Wonderful! We appreciate you hanging out here in English. I wish I knew German. I only know one phrase that was in my German guidebook. Ich kann keine Waltze tanzen. That really appealed to my husband and I when we were traveling. 🙂

      2. And a very important sentence too since I can’t dance it either! 😉 German is actually quite a lovely language though learning it must be a bit difficult when you’re an English native speaker, all those different declinations can be a tad challenging.
        Where in Germany did you and your husband travel?

      3. Sarah, we only went to München (and a place just outside of there). I started to talk to a nice man at the train station in my broken German. He answered back in perfect English so I didn’t get much practise. It was just before the Berlin Wall came down. A hopeful time. As backpackers, we really couldn’t afford Germany or Switzerland.

        Backpacking through Europesounds wonderful, I always wanted to do that but never found the time. Maybe I’ll do that when I visit you and Su Down Under. 😉

      5. I think a wheeled suitcase is just as good. 🙂 I think I would do a Europe trip differently next time. Just go to one or two places and learn the town and countryside. Although we were away for six months, we only spent a few days in each town. Most time was spent trying to find the supermarket. 🙂

      6. Looking out for supermarkets sounds very familiar – I did this all the time during a trip through the south of Spain! 😂 I actually remember more the food than any sights from back then – but that could also be normal for me, good food’s very important to me. 😉
