The End – 30 Days 30 Songs

It’s the last day of my blog challenge –

Share Your Music! 30 Days 30 Songs!

(You can still join me if you want, it’s never too late, you know. 😉 )

I actually can’t believe that I did it! It’s been a first for me – to blog on every single day for the whole month of June.

And I don’t mind admitting that I’m feeling quite exhausted now. It’s not that I had trouble coming up with all these songs – on the contrary I could do this for a year and more! – but spending all that time writing and scheduling these posts, replying to all your wonderful comments and hopping over to your blogs to listen to your favourite songs as well, had me neglecting so many of the blogs I usually read, and I have to say that I really feel bad because of it.

I will try catching up with all of you really soon and look forward to reading your posts!

I hope you enjoyed this music challenge as much as I did. 🙂

Today’s song – California Dreamin’ by The Mamas and the Papas – is one of my very favourites which is why I safed it for the last day of my challenge.

The impressive precision of the harmonies combined with the overall wistfulness… well, this song has me dreamin’. 🙂

  1. I traveled to England and Wales in 1966 right after high school graduation. We listened to a lot of great Brit bands but also to the Mamas and the Papas every day, this song especially. So much fun.

I’ve taken off of blogging for a few days to deal with stuff. Yesterday we celebrated our Independence Day, a big deal in this country. BBQs, parades (my husband is a featured entry in our little city’s parade) and fireworks to light up the sky. Yesterday, as I stood on our parade route, a big earthquake, 6.4, struck in the desert to the northeast of us. I didn’t feel that one.

But I did feel the bigger earthquake, 7.1, that struck today at 8:19 PM. Our house rolled for about a minute, our chandelier rolled for 8 minutes. Earthquakes make me nauseous and dizzy, and this one really unnerved me. I’ve only calmed down in the last hour (it’s now 10:15 PM) So, I’m safe, my family and friends are safe, but we’re all a bit on edge. I really feel badly for the people out in Searles Valley where the quake’s epicenter is located. They’ve had hundreds of aftershocks and must be unable to sleep for fear of the next (possible) strike.

So this song, California Dreamin, has special significance today. Maybe not what the band intended, and you couldn’t have known because you selected it for June 30. But I heard it today, July 5, just after settling down after the earthquake. Good ending for this fun 30 Days of Music, Sarah.

Next time you run this kind of music challenge, please try to not get our tectonic plates excited with your choices. Maybe just stick with lullabies. (I am never going to be able to sleep tonight.)

(You know I love you, Sarah.)

    1. Thanks so much for letting me know that you and your family are safe, Shari! I’ve been meaning to write to you anyway today (via email), and the news about the earthquakes made me want to even more.
I’ve luckily never experienced an earthquake, even didn’t dare to go on that platform imitating one in the British Natural History Museum when I was there. Just watching the other people shaking from side to side, and all those furniture falling apart or on the side was nauseating enough for me. I don’t know if they’re still offering that, but I’m not going to change my mind about that should I visit it again.
So I can only imagine what it must feel like, and also know that I don’t. It must be utterly terrifying. I hope that the earth and the tectonic plates are going to calm down soon and that no one gets hurt. And I promise to stick to lullabies next time for the challenge, just to be on the safe side.
Hope you got some sleep last night.
      Take care! xxx

I hear you about keeping up the rivoirs of blogging – it is wonderful to have lots of stimulating & supportive conversation with the community, but that requires much time @ energy, as does writing & queuing posts. So I definitely hear you!

  5. Another great song and very apt for a wintry day in Tasmania. I have really enjoyed this past month of songs even though I didn’t join in every day. Thanks for running the challenge, maybe do it again next year?

    1. The pleasure is all mine, Su, honest! It was such fun looking through all those CDs of mine, selecting the songs and getting to know you and the others better through your choice of music. 😀 I was thinking that we could maybe add a song with a special theme to the Changing Seasons? Or on its own. 🙂

      1. 🙂
I was thinking maybe a separate thing. The Changing Seasons seems to work for people because some already have a theme for it. But maybe we could do a poll or something and canvas ideas? xx

    1. You’re very welcome, Tracy, and really, the pleasure is all mine! I had lots of fun doing this, although I admit that I’m in need of a break now. 😉 It was so lovely to get to know you more via the songs you chose, and I’m so thankful for all the great artists and music you’ve introduced me to during this challenge. And now we can put our feet up and relax a little. I think we’ve earned that. 😉 ❤
