I don’t like admitting it, even to myself, but at the moment I feel much more exhausted than I would like.
There’s no one else to blame for this than me, because the signs have been there all along, especially in the last two or three months.
But instead of lighten the load, my immediate reaction was to come up with a 30 day challenge this last month for my blog, pushing myself even more and burning my candle at both ends.
Stupid, I know, but what can you do?
Finally it hit me this past Friday – I’m in dire need of a break.
This means no social media (WordPress, Instagram) from now on for at least a couple of weeks. My promised catch up with all of your wonderful blogs will have to wait for until when I come back.
In order not to let myself be trapped back into the lure of social media and the internet, I will be giving up my smartphone during this time, or rather use it only for what it’s once solely function was – i.e. making telephone calls. 😉
To help me do this, I got hold of a number of hidden away wristwatches of mine (because who had need of those once mobile phones came along, right?), changed their batteries and will start wearing them again, so as not to even look at my phone for the time.
I had a trial run this weekend, and honestly? – It felt good! It felt like I was back in the 90’s, a time where I did use the internet, yes, but only occasionally.
What I will do though, is keep checking my emails, but only once a day, not several times like I got used to it. I will also reply since I figure that I will have more time at my hands for doing this than I normally do. 😉
I’m wishing you all a beautiful and creative July – stay cool/warm depending on which side of the planet you live! 😉
Enjoy your time and recharge 💕 Love the watches!!

Thank you, Lisa! 😀 I’m actually in the process of getting back to the land of social media again. 😉 The break was lovely though. Looking forward to catch up with you soon, both here and on IG! ❤

So sorry to feel you are exhausted. Taking July off sounds like a good plan and I hope you get some rest 🙂 Haha, that is a very cool X-Files watch. When I was younger in the 90s and 00s I remember having a few watches. One of them was a Mickey Mouse watch with a brown strap. Another one was a white waterproof one (those were so cool back in the day and Baby-G watches too lol). It is winter here in Australia. So cold and I cannot wait for summer to come So far this winter I have decided to take things easy but my first amigurumi is coming along so well 😀

Thank you, Mabel!
I’d love to have a Micky Mouse watch like that! And I do remember those Baby-G watches – mine was pink btw. 😉 I think I kept all my watches except for that one, I was quite embarrassed because of it afterwards! 😀
So sorry to hear that winter is treating you badly, but maybe it’s helping that we’re having here one heatwave after another, coming directly from the Sahara and I can tell you it’s not nice! 😀 Of course, if it’s not too hot, it is too cold, even for Germany, but no one dares complaining about that, fearing that it might provoke another of those heatwaves! 😀
Keep warm, my friend, and I can’t wait to see that amigurumi of yours!! My last one is a Snoopy, one of my favourite cartoon characters. 😀
I’m slowly on my way back to blogging land – replying to comments mostly and even preparing my next post. 🙂 And I’m looking forward to catching up with you soon!
Have a happy weekend! ❤

Hehe, maybe you will find something else from the 90s or your childhood at some point, and it will make for another memory lane blog post 😀
Hopefully the heat is manegeable for you, and autumn might be coming your way soon 🙂 Snoopy is amazing! Maybe you know what Kerokerokeroppi is 😀

Have a lovely new week ahead, Mabel! ❤

I am thinking of you too Sarah. ❤️ Wishing you a great summer and please take this time off to rejuvenate. I will try to do the same. I am looking forward to reading your email, dear friend, but there is no rush. It gives me great pleasure to know that you are taking the time to read, walk around the parks and visit art galleries and museums. Hugs. xxx

Excellent idea. After 3 YEARS of doing #365daysofgratitude challenges on IG, I’ve decided I needed a break. Sometimes I feel the pull, but other times, I’m relieved that I’ve stepped away from it.

Wow! That must have incredibly challenging to post each and every day for 3 years!!! As soon as I get back to social media properly (just occasionally replying to lovely comments such as yours 😉 ), I will look out for you on IG too! 😀
And I hear you about that pull – it keeps pulling. 😉 But it’s getting easier by the day. 😀 Have a lovely day, Lani! 🙂

Thanks! Actually, the every day posting became habitual, and if it was ‘one of those days’ I allowed myself a break and double posted the following day. OR, sometimes I’d double post in anticipation of a busy day. Basically, I made my own rules 😉 Cheers!

As I’ve said, I’ve fallen way behind on reading and commenting on the blogs I love, haven’t written on my own blog for weeks. So I truly understand needing a break from the digital world.
Have some fun, Sarah, take out your Mum for lunch, go visit the museums and parks. Come back when you’re ready – I’ll be waiting for you.

Lunch – check.
Park – check.
Museum – no check, still need to do that. 😉
This break is quite nice actually, I get to read my books, go on crafts markets, do some pottery just for me… like a little holiday. 😀
Hope you enjoy your break from the blogging world too, Shari. It’s important to recharge those batteries from time to time, and as much fun as it is, blogging takes up a lot of time too, doesn’t it? But I admit, I do look forward to get back and start reading all those lovely blogs again. 😀

So glad I’m not the only one falling behind due to exhaustion. I have been hammered with projects since April and just couldn’t keep up. I have over 630 blogs and email posts to get through but it has to wait a tiny bit longer. The rest was absolutely necessary to restore my battery so take the time you need. The world will keep spinning and you will feel better. If you don’t, get a checkup. Keep taking care of yourself. 😉

Thank you, Marlene! Yes, restoring those batteries is very important and I’m glad you do this too when you feel like it’s all getting a bit too much. I often fail to recognize the early sign and then get hit all the harder for having done so. 😉

You could simply turn your smart phone on airplane mode, cut out all the Internet, and still have a watch. But I do like your alternative. Have a wonderful break!

I tried that and it didn’t work – too much temptation, I guess. 😉

Good for you, Sarah! I did the same thing over the weekend. I had been working 7 days a week on my blog and photography. I stayed off WP and only *took* photos. I didn’t edit them. It felt good. 😊

hi – cool watches and hope you have fun wearing them – with the memories and with a fun purpose.
I was just reading again about the value of taking breaks (this time in a book called Genius Foods) and I know my blog browns are so hard the first week or two – like it is so easy to just want to post a single photo – but I hunker down and stay away knowing it is for my good in the end – anyhow, it really is crucial to fast and pause so best wishes – 🙂

cheers to freshness

you also and I look forward to peeking at some of your June posts and songs. I am sure it was a little work to finish – but now you have this rich blog resource there for all time – and there are other fruits that unfolded – like others joined in and it was a fun idea (sorry to have missed the June song challenge) – but I guess as we are both noting here – there is a time to blog – there is a time to blog hard – and then there is a time to pause and pull back.
🙂

Cutting down on social media is a great way to give your brain a rest. I have a smartphone but rarely use it for the internet, and I still wear a wristwatch, an old school one with hands not digital, whenever I go out. I think it’s good not to become too dependent on technology. A friend of mine who loves gadgets and especially anything Apple forgot to meet up with me and some other friends for coffee last Friday. We do it every week but his smartphone didn’t remind him so he didn’t know it was Friday. Admittedly he is retired so days of the week mean less. Enjoy your break.

Thank you, Vanda! It’s astonishing how much we rely on our little gadgets these days, your friend is the perfect example. I remember a time when I knew everyone of my friend’s telephone numbers out of the top of my head, but not anymore. Wishing you a lovely July – keep warm!
