Welcome to a new blog challenge!

Film Fridays is a project initiated by Darren from over at The Arty Plantsman and me.

After doing a daily music challenge for a month last year we talked about doing something similar for movies.

And the current global lockdowns give us the perfect excuse to start!
Many of us are confined to home with only the TV for company so we thought we would start ‘Film Fridays’ so that we can talk about our favourite movies and hopefully give our readers some ideas for things to watch.

We don’t necessarily want to talk about the nerdy technical details but more about why these films speak to us as individuals, why they have a place in our hearts, and any personal memories they evoke.

Today I’m starting with the „Indiana Jones“ movies starring Harrison Ford and directed by Steven Spielberg.
That I’m mentioning these films first might give you a clue as to how much I love, Love, LOVE them – though I have to admit that after that my list of favorites is rather a chaotic muddle! 😂

I still remember my awe when the opening scenes of „Raiders of the Lost Ark“ (1981), the first in a series of to date four, started.
The mystery, the adventure, the GOLD!

(Oh, and the hat of course – what wouldn’t I give for a fedora that fits me!! Sigh.)
Well, it hit me that I would have to become an archaeologist if I wanted these things to come true – and so I did!!
But before you start to get all excited about that, I have to tell you that it wasn’t all that glamorous and I actually never found any gold but merely fossilized fishes, plants and beetles. 😉 Oh, and part of a Propalaeotherium, an early genus of equid endemic to Europe and Asia during the Early Eocene (about 45 million years ago). (In an upcoming post I’ll talk more about this and show you pictures.)

For a short while I even got the nickname Indy, because I couldn’t talk about anything else! And if we had had mobile phones back then, I’m sure I would have picked the Movie Theme by John Williams for my ringtone. 😉

Even though I could probably give you a scene by scene account of any of the movies (be glad you’re stuck at home and not sitting with me in front of a TV – just imagine me excitedly jumping up and down while dramatically explaining what’s going to happen in the next scene right before it plays), I’ll stick to just one of the scenes that made a lasting impression on me.
