Film Friday – “I Guess You Guys Aren’t Ready For That Yet. But Your Kids Are Gonna Love It.”

DSC_0850

Film Fridays is a project initiated by Darren from over at The Arty Plantsman and me.

After doing a daily music challenge for a month last year we talked about doing something similar for movies.

And the current global lockdowns give us the perfect excuse to start!
Many of us are confined to home with only the TV for company so we thought we would start ‘Film Fridays’ so that we can talk about our favourite movies and hopefully give our readers some ideas for things to watch.
We would be delighted if you would join us!
Just tag your post with #FilmFriday and do a pingback to either Darren’s or my posts so that we can can have a look at yours! You can also copy the “Film Friday” poster I came up with.

We don’t necessarily want to talk about the nerdy technical details but more about why these films speak to us as individuals, why they have a place in our hearts, and any personal memories they evoke.

So please join us each friday when we will each be talking about a different movie from our list of favourites!

Back to the Future
Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox; pencil and pastel on cardboard, May 2020)

Being much cooler than me, Darren already wrote about “Back to the Future” a few weeks ago, so please click here to learn all about the geeky stuff and read his awesome post!

And click here to watch one of my favorite scenes of the first part!

Apart from that there’s nothing much left to say, except that –

I LOVE “BACK TO THE FUTURE”!!!!!!!!!!!

(I added a few extra exclamation marks to make sure you understand what I mean. 😉 )

It’s one of my favorite trilogies in film history, the others being Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

The story is awesome – I mean, time travel! it can’t get much cooler than that – oh wait! actually it can – if you travel through time in a DeLorean!!! – the actors are fabulous – never was a mad scientist so funny than when Christopher Lloyd played Doc Brown, and Michael J. Fox? Well, I guess you’re not surprised to hear, that I had a huge crush on him back in the future… eh, day. 😉 – the music is beyond cool (“That’s the power of love!”)… so all in all, a fabulous, no, a fantastic piece of film history.

And if you haven’t watched it already, I can only hope you’ll find the time to watch it now, because there’s no day like tomorrow… eh, today. 😉

(Yes, sorry, I know, I’ll stop with the cheesy jokes now. )

And if you have watched it already, which was your favorite part and/or scene? Would you also love to go back to the Old West? Or rather visit the future?

Let me know in your comments!

  1. Back To The Future was a fun trilogy and a huge favourite of my husband’s. He never got tired of seeing those films. It was a lot of fun to see how they imagined the future. Doc Smith was a great character and as a person who loves trains, I thought it was great that they found a way to turn a steam engine into a time machine.
Michael J Fox was so young. I hope they never remake the films because I doubt that they could be done better.

    1. Oh, absolutely! It would be horrible if they’d try to remake these films!! But then I tend to think that if every film and tv series. 😄
I loved that too that Doc Brown used a steam engine for the time machine in the third part – that really was so cool! Also there’s lots more room than in a DeLorean. 😄

  2. Oh yes, we could watch the Back to the Future films over and over and not be bored. Such great story telling, the future on the precipice of all the questionable decisions of the past. You chose a really challenging image of Michael J. Fox but I knew that face as soon as I saw it – so well done, Sarah.

    1. Thank you so much, Shari! He was quite difficult to draw (I tend to think that the younger the face, the harder it gets), and although I’m quite pleased with the result I do think that it could have been better. 😉 Maybe this could be his brother or cousin. 😄
So glad that you also like these movies!! 😄

  3. I don’t remember the film well enough to have a favourite part, but I love sharing in everyone’s passion for much-loved movies. Cinema is such a huge part of our shared culture and memory!

      1. That is a really interesting point. When I was younger, there was a fairly limited release of new films into the local cinemas so that people generally saw a new film within a few weeks (months at most) of each other and so could talk about them together. The same was true with TV programmes when they were broadcast at a particular time. Now, with streaming and so much more choice it is more difficult to have those conversations and to build the cultural connections that come from them.

      2. Exactly! I really think it’s a shame, but what can you do? We can consider ourselves lucky that we got the chance to experience it as it was back in the day!
On the plus side – with streaming and whatnot we get the chance to watch a lot more series that might not have aired on tv otherwise. 😉

    1. That was my favorite part, too. The poor boy was so disconcerted. I also liked the part when Marty’s mother baked the homecoming cake for the brother/cousin/uncle? who just got released from prison.

  4. I liked that movie too, especially the first one. My favorite part is when Marty meets his young parents. Wouldn’t that be cool if we could do that? I’d love that. A fun post and memory, Sarah. 🙂 Have a great weekend and stay safe.

    1. Thank you, Diana! Oh yes, that would be quite fun I think, but maybe also a little bit awkward what with the funny clothes my parents wore in the 70s! 😄 Have a wonderful weekend too! ❤

  5. Well, no need for me to comment really except to say that no way am I cooler than you Sarah!
Since my post I have been thinking about my favourite things about this trilogy. I am going to say Doc Brown! Though Einstein the dog is super cute. Glad you posted about this trilogy too as I love reading what a fellow fan likes about fave movies we share.

    1. Okay, let’s meet in the middle and say we’re both equally cool. 😉😍
And I think you’re absolutely right about Doc Brown! It wouldn’t have worked without him and also not without Christopher Lloyd portraying him. Aww – Einstein! So cute! 😍
