I´m utterly thrilled to have been nominated for the 3.2.1 Quote Me! Challenge by my wonderful friend Dominique over at 3CStyle!
If you haven´t already visited her blog I can only recommend that you do so pronto because this lady has one of the best blogs I´ve come across so far in my 3 years of blogging!
She is Style impersonated, and on top of that incredibly intelligent, undescribably beautiful and unimaginably kind.
So do yourself a favor and hop right over to her blog after you’ve finished reading this post!
And if my words so far have failed to tempt you, and also because for me, when I think of chic – which is this challenge´s topic – I think of Dominique. 🙂 So let me add a few of her mesmerizing photos that can be gazed at on her blog, in addition to the quotes I chose for this challenge. (I hope you don´t mind me borrowing your pics, Dominique!!!)
Rules: 3.2.1 Quote Me!
-Thank the Selector (Thank you so much, Dominique!!!)
-Post 2 quotes for the dedicated Topic of the Day
-Select 3 bloggers to take part in the ‘3.2.1 Quote Me! Challenge’
Note: Although this is the topic for today there is no specific deadline to it, meaning you can answer as and when.
Today’s Topic: CHIC
Admittedly you don´t get to see me very often in person on this blog as it concentrates more on the things I do than on the things I wear. 😉
But if you´d see me, you´d mostly find me in some very comfy clothes that are however somewhat leaning on the elegant side.
I´m not what you would call a fashion victim but tend to select only the things that fit into my style when going shopping for clothes.
This is mainly due to me wanting to wear a certain dress or shirt or whatever for a longer period than the admitted time of what is called fashionable at the moment.
This also means that I go for quality rather than for quantity.
But don’t get the wrong impression! I rarely buy clothes for their original price especially when they come from brands that are way above my income. Luckily there are shops that help girls like me and that sell these things for 50 or 70% less, like TK Maxx/TJ Maxx or the like. 😉
But what I also do from time to time – and lately more than before – is sewing my own clothes! Yes, that´s right, I´m investing time and money to buy fabrics and then go through the whole procedure of cutting, pinning and sewing to make my own clothes. And the funny thing is, that this makes even more fun than just buying the machine-produced goods.
Also – and this is something I value very highly – it guarantees that my clothes are something uniquely my own. 😉
So here are my quotes (I know, I know, it should have been just 2, but I found so many wonderful quotes that I only could cut it down to 5):
„Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and, of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys, they’d just walk around naked at all times.“
Betsey Johnson
„Fashion is like eating, you shouldn´t stick to the same menu.“
Kenzo Takada
„I firmly believe that with the right footwear one can rule the world.“
Bette Midler
„I like my money right where I can see it… hanging in my closet.“
Carrie Bradshaw
„Fashions fade, style is eternal.“
Yves Saint Laurent
As to the nominees – I don´t like nominating only a couple of individuals but would like to invite everyone to take part in this challenge who would like to join the fun!
I enjoyed the quotes, and share your passion for TK/TJ MAXX.

I feel rather silly. When I read the title of this, I thought it said „Quote Mel.“ So, I wondered who Mel was… I guess, if I was totally mortified, I wouldn’t be writing this comment here. However, honesty and my rules for honesty still apply, as do my feelings of confronting my own stupidity.
Have an awesome rest of the weekend.

For me comfy is always good, as is easy to throw together. I do think it is so important to dress mindfully as it does affect how we feel. My outfits are extremely basic and simple, but I do love my earrings!

Comfy is always good, isn´t it? Especially when it comes to our feet, I think. In summer I wear Birkenstocks all the time, and you´ll never find me wearing high heels! 😉
And I also love combining basic outfits with creative and colorful accessories! 🙂

What a fun post this is, Sarah. Would love to see one of the creations you’ve made. My current fashion statement is to wear what’s clean which often means the same thing as the day before only washed during the night in between. At my age, no one is looking at me, thank heaven, so I have to concentrate on what I do or say.
I love your new avatar – lovely.

Thank you very much, Shari! And I totally get your current fashion statement – I’ll let you into a secret: I often do just the same.😉
I planned taking some pictures of me in my dresses but haven’t found the time lately and now it’s a bit too cold for them to wear outside which is where I wanted to make the shoot since no one needs to see my crammy place. 😉 Although if you look closely you can get a hint of it in my new avatar pic – lol! 😄

I love all your quotes and I really enjoy 3Cs style! How wonderful that you can make your own clothes – I have a roll of fabric from KL that is just begging to be made into a wrap around skirt.

Fun quotes. I think high school girls should understand more that they should dress for themselves, not the boys. The ghastly things they wear! Hate seeing them objectify themselves, instead of wearing cool, fun clothes that they enjoy. xo

Thanks, Pam! And I totally agree! Girls in general should do as they like and not as their boyfriends want them to. It’s maddening and sad, and I wish there would be another suffragette movement coming along soon – it’s badly needed!!
Have a beautiful weekend, my friend! ❤ xoxo

Look how long the suffragettes had to struggle before we women finally got the vote. And then the “Women’s Liberation” years, in which we were called “Women Libbers” with disdain (oh yes, I can remember those days). Two steps forward, one step back. ;-0

I know what you mean, Pam. We’ve still got a long way ahead of us but we must not loose hope for a better future. ❤

My Good Lady definitely subscribes to the Carrie Bradshaw school of thought – There’s no space in our whole wall wardrobe for any of my clothes! I get by with a mix of some drawers and getting told off for leaving clothes on the sofa 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
LOL! 😂 Poor you! Maybe you should start investing money in Armani suits and the like, even if you don’t wear them they would deserve a place in that wardrobe. 😉

What a fun post, Sarah, and the naked quote made me laugh! All the photos are gorgeous, and your selection of quotes is superb. It’s hard to choose only two, isn’t it? 🙂 I’m also impressed that you’re sewing your own clothes. That’s one thing I never could do, although I did try when I was younger. My mom could sew anything, but unfortunately, I didn’t inherit that gene from her. Anyway, have fun and maybe you’ll share some of your outfits here? 😉 Love and hugs, my friend…xo

Thanks so much, Lauren! It’s been such fun doing this challenge and finding quotes that reflect my thoughts about fashion and style.
I’m planning to prepare a post about my ‘designs’ and hope to get the photo shoot soon done.😉
Although I feel more comfortable behind a camera than in front of it! 😂
Much love and many hugs! xoxo 💗💗💗

Sowing your own clothes, yep…did that too. Hope to find some time to do again, during winter. Maybe you could display some of your creations?
Big hugs! XxX
(ps…knock on wood, but it seems that my protheses are finally fitting correctly. Tonight the big ‘eating-test’. )

Thanks so much, Patty! I’m hoping to prepare a post about my ‘designs’ as soon as I’ll find time for it. Since I’m going to be the ‘model’ it needs some convincing on my part.😂
So so glad that your protheses are finally a perfect fit! Hope the eating test went fine? Xxx

Well, it isn’t fitting perfect yet, but eventually will get there. Adjusting to it, is harder as I expected 😦

Aww- thanks!! 😍
The thing is I’m more comfortable behind a camera than in front of it! 😂
So sorry to hear it’s still not perfect but I hope you can handle more substantial food now??

Well, I think that is why ‘Photoshop’ is developed, haha
Yes! I already eat chicken, chips (I missed the sound of eating that) and vegetables. But the upper-prothese moves, so that has to be filled. And the below one, has to be adjusted too. Testing a few more things this week and then probably back to the dentist next week.

Will keep my fingers crossed for the testing! It must be so hard to forego so much food.
Have a lovely weekend, Patty! 😄 xxx

Loved the quotes! And good for you for sewing some of your own clothes! Sewing seems to be a dying art these days, which is sad. My mother could sew almost anything well, and believe me, that has come in handy over the years!

So glad you enjoyed the quotes, Ann! Whenever I tell my friends that I sew some of my clothes and bags they make big eyes. They probably have never seen a sewing machine! 😁
Did you inherit your mom’s talent when it comes to sewing? I bet she taught you some useful tips and tricks. 😄

Sadly, I was never very good at sewing, despite taking Home Ed in high school. I made a few things, but they were very simple. However, I can hem my clothes and make minor repairs, so I guess the time was not completely lost. But it really does make me sad how few people know how to sew anymore…the clothes that we make ourselves (if we’re good at it) are of such better quality than most of what we buy in a store! Plus, you can pick exactly the fabric you want and make sure it fits you exactly right.

Sorry for the late reply, Ann! You expressed exactly my thoughts when it comes to sewing your own clothes. Like so many things it seems this will become a lost artform like handwriting for example. But at least there are still many people interested in fashion and design and even study it, sewing is a big part of it as I’ve heard from a friend so not all hope is lost.😊

You sound very chic to me, Sarah. I’m a fashion disaster, I’m afraid. But when I was in my teens, I sewed all my own clothes – mostly hippie smock tops and dresses, but still… originals. It was a lot of fun so I can relate to the excitement of creating unique one-of-a-kind clothing. Great photos and so stylish. I can dream… 🙂 ❤

Thank you, Diana! And how lovely to know you also used to sew all your clothes! I’ve managed to sew 3 pair of light pants and 2 dresses so far this summer and they’re my favourites to wear now. I’ve got lots of fabrics and really look forward to use them all for more clothing experiments.😉
As to the photos – I can only dream too! 😄❤

I’m smiling so much at your quotes Sarah — especially the first!!! I think we probably share a similar aesthetic, but I am definitely feeling the need to re-vamp my wardrobe and maybe do some sewing. It used to be an absolute necessity here, because the market was so small you could guarantee that no matter how expensive a dress you bought, someone else would be wearing the same one at any event attended. I had one particularly lovely dress that “matched” the sister of the bride’s at a wedding I attended, and one of my workmates. Luckily in the latter case, I was also her boss. Not that I routinely abused my power of course 🙂

It’s weird how clothing has changed here to over the years. When I was still at school a pair of jeans for example had to be from either Levis or Wrangler and cost about 120 DM (about 45£ back in the day I guess). Nowadays it doesn’t matter as much as you can get so many no name brands from H&M and the like that look pretty cool too and are much cheaper.
LikeLiked by 1 person
🙂 I was always a Levis girl (and made each pair last for ever). I think my late teens was the only time I was brand-aware. The boy-child works in a skate shop that sells very high-end street wear and it amazes me how much people are prepared to pay for something PURELY because it has a particular logo on it. I keep telling him the brands should pay the customers for being walking advertisements, but he’s unimpressed 🙂 xxxxx

It’s the same for me – brand-aware during my teens and now wanting to get paid for walking around like a billboard. 😁 It’s ridiculous really how much people are willing to pay for clothes of a special brand. They should maybe start to think about donating their money as they seem to have too much of it…
Sorry for not replying earlier, I’ve had to deal with some minor health issues and spent two days at the hospital. Back home now which is good. 😊 xxxxxxxxx
