It’s time again for the wonderful challenge The Changing Seasons hosted by my dear friend Su from Zimmerbitch!

 

This month started in the best possible way – that is that I got two beautiful handmade cards by my lovely friends A Wonderful Sheep…

After Christmas is always before Christmas for me, so this lovely Holiday card simply prolonged that wonderful holiday feeling for me. 🙂

Amazing butterfly drawings – I swear: if I could draw like Darren, I wouldn’t need a camera anymore!

 

I also finished a big project of mine – after hours and hours of knitting (it took me just 3 month! 😉  ) – these socks were ready to be worn!

And what did I do with my new wooly socks? Exactly – I went to the park and took what felt like a thousand photos from the squirrels and song birds in the cold. Very lucky I had my socks with me. 😉

The month also brought me the most amazing sunset I have ever seen here in Berlin – no added filters!!

    1. Thanks so much, Darren! I admit I try not to wear the socks too often because I’m afraid I’m wearing them down and wouldn’t it be a shame after months of knitting? 😂

  8. The cards from your friends are really wonderful! And those socks – spectacular! I wouldn’t want to wear shoes over them, too pretty not to show off.
    Photos of birds are so lovely – we see such ordinary birds around here. I miss the avian variety from when I was a little kid in New Jersey which is on the Atlantic side of the US. Happy mid-winter to you, Sarah.

    1. Hi Shari! So lovely to hear from you! I hope you’re well? Thanks so much for your lovely comment – you’re absolutely right, I’d love to be able to wear the socks without shoes just to show them off! 😀
      It’s funny how people think of “their” birds being ordinary because they are not to someone from half way around the globe, so I would definitely think yours must be awesome too. 😉 And how about Hawaii? The birds there must be spectacular!! Happy mid-winter to you too!

      1. One of the oddest things about when I lived in Hawaii – twice, at different points of my childhood – is that I don’t particularly remember the wild birds. There were captive mynahs and cockatoos at the International Marketplace in downtown Honolulu, but I have no memories of birds in our backyards. Really peculiar because I’ve always been aware of the wild birds in my neighborhoods, wherever I’ve lived.

      2. That’s odd indeed! Over the years I’ve observed how some bird species like the common sparrow was almost wiped away here in the city just to come roaring back. Never know why that happened but I’m glad they returned. 😊

  10. The changing of the seasons is less defined each year. But you have quite a good grasp on it. Love the photos and especially the butterflies!!! I love butterflies. Those socks are envy worthy. I love them. They are so whimsical that you can’t help but smile. Yes, another fun pair is in order.

    1. Thank you, Marlene! I just started yesterday on a new pair of socks – will see if I can finish them a bit faster this time, what with practice and all! 😀
      I also love butterflies, so this card was doubly wonderful for me. 😀

  23. So wonderful Sarah 🙂 Yes those butterflies made me look twice, Socks in time for winter well done. Not sure about feeding sunflower seeds to some animals and birds. They have a high fat content which isn’t good for parrots.

    1. Thank you, Brian! 🙏 About the sunflower seeds, it’s very common around here to feed birds these and also peanuts and other nuts or seeds exactly because of their fatty content so that they can survive the cold. A parrot wouldn’t need that I think so it’s better if they keep with occasional nuts and more fruits.

      1. I didn’t, well actually never, think of cold weather and feeding birds. Thanks for a bit more information that has just gone into the brain. The wild birds mix for parrots has lots of different seeds and a few sunflower seeds.
